Tractor driver attempts to crush police party; 10 held

POLICE PARTY HAD GONE TO MAJHIMIAN FOR VACATING AN ENCROACHME­NT ON THR LAND OF A VILLAGER

AMRITSAR: The Ajnala police have arrested 10 people for attempt to murder after the driver of a tractor, on which they were travelling, allegedly tried to crush a police party under the tractor in Majhimian village, around 35 km from here on Wednesday.

The accused have been identified as Gurdeep Singh, Uttam Singh, Jagbir Singh, Harpal Singh, Samsher Singh of Matian village, Ramanpreet Singh, Harmanbir Singh, Manpreet Singh of Mirankot village, Vikram Singh of Sultanwind and Mandeep Singh of Gumtala in Amritsar.

The police party, led by station house officer (SHO) of the Ajnala police station, inspector Paramvir Singh, had gone to the village on the direction of additional sessions judge Sarabjit Singh of Amritsar for vacating an encroached part of land of one Ramesh Kumar of the village.Inspector Paramvir, in his complaint, said that one of the accused Gurdeep Singh was driving a Mohindra Arjan 555 tractor and others were also travelling on the tractor.

“Soon after seeing the police team, Gurdeep sped up his tractor towards us with an intention of crushing us under it, but escape narrowly,” he said.

A case under sections 307 (attempt to murder), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 186 (obstructin­g public servant in discharge of public functions), 148 (rioting, armed with deadly weapon) and 149 (every member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecutio­n of common object) of IPC has been registered.
