BATALA : Panic prevails in this industrial town after the murder of a registered medical practitioner (RMP) by some unidentified people near Talwandi Lal Singh village here on Friday night.

It is the second such incident during the past 20 days, in which the accused, armed with sharpedged weapons, hacked a person and fled away after robbing valuables from him. Earlier on April 18, a cloth vendor was also murdered by some unidentified persons in the same area.

In his complaint to police, Kashmir Singh, a resident of Shankarpur village, said that his younger brother Balwinder Singh, 50, was an RMP and had been running a small clinic in Rikhia village from the past many years.

He said on Friday night, he got a call that Balwinder Singh was lying in a pool of blood on a roadside. “We rushed to the spot and took Balwinder to the civil hospital in Batala, where he was declared brought dead. There were several deep injury marks on the entire body of Balwinder and his mobile phone, a gold chain and cash was missing”.

The police have registered a case under section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against unidentified persons. It is pertinent to mention here that the increasing incidents of snatching, robberies and murders in the past couple of months have created panic among the residents.
