SRINAGAR: In protests by locals after an encounter between the militants and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in Chattabal area of Srinagar on Saturday, a civilian was also killed in Noorbagh, close to the encounter site.

The civilian, Adil Ahmad Yadoo, was involved in an accident at Noorbagh and taken to SMHS hospital in Srinagar where doctors declared him dead, Jammu and Kashmir police tweeted.

However, soon after, a video of a stone-pelting youth being run over by a police vehicle went viral on social media triggering outrage in Kashmir, further prompting police to file a case and starting legal proceedings against the driver.

After registering a case under Section 304-A (whoever causes the death of any person by doing any rash or negligent act not amounting to culpable homicide) of the Ranbir Penal Code, police detained the driver of the vehicle and legal action is being taken, a police official said.

In this regard, a case has been registered at PS (police station) Safakadal under relevant sections of law and proceedings have been initiated against the police vehicle/ driver who was involved in the accident.”
