AMRITSAR: Assuring cooperation from the state government, cabinet minister for school education and environment OP Soni on Sunday told the industrialists that no objection certificates (NOCs) will be issued and other official formalities will be completed within a fortnight for new industrial units.
During a conference hosted here by the Sangrur District Industrial Chamber (SDIC), the minister said the industrialists are the freedom fighters who fight for the economic freedom of the state.
He said due to the reformative policies introduced by the then union finance minister Dr Manmohan Singh in 1993 during the government of PV Narasimha Rao, the industrialists got a sigh of relief from licence raj and brought economic transition and globalisation.
“Now that major issues have been resolved, the minor are in our domain to be resolved. I assure you that I will discuss the issues brought in my notice with my colleagues and get them resolved within a fortnight,” he said, adding that chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh is bringing relief for the industry very soon as certain policies are in the pipeline.
Defining a few of demands of the industrialists, Ghanshyam Kansali, president of the chamber, which is one of the oldest chambers in Punjab, said Captain Amarinder Singh has an open heart for the industrialists and his intervention in resolving certain issues is immediately required.
He informed that Captain has made special arrangements to refund the pending VAT arrears for Sangrur district and credited 20 crore, which is half of the arrears.
Kansal said ₹20 crore is still pending with the government and urged Soni to make arrangements for immediate refund of the amount.
He requested the minister to intervene in the value-added tax (VAT) case scrutiny so that no innocent gets harassed and only the cases of offenders get caught.
He said adopting the policy of socialism via capitalism will be the best option to generate jobs and achieve economic freedom. He further said unemployment of the educated is the worst form of economic slavery and industry is hoping a lot from the government.
Gurdaspur deputy commissioner Gurlovleen Singh Sidhu, additional civil judge Manish Garg, president of Punjab Beopar Mandal, Pyare Lal Seth, members of textile manufacturing association Amritsar were also present on the occasion.
