Two bikers shoot at ATM guard, take away ₹9 lakh, his rifle in Sangrur
SANGRUR : Two bikers with their covered faces shot at a guard outside an ATM, snatched ₹9 lakh and the latter’s rifle before fleeing, Sangrur police said on Monday.
The incident took place at 11am in CL tower’s branch of IDBI ATM when a private company’s van arrived to upload cash in the machine, they added.
As per police, the accused, who have been captured on a closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera, attacked the security guard Leela Singh, 48, who was standing outside the ATM, besides other two employees, Rajinder Singh and Mukhtiar Singh, who were uploading cash inside.
The injured guard, who was shot in stomach, was rushed to the local civil hospital and later referred to Patiala’s Rajindra hospital.
Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Mandeep Singh Sidhu and deputy superintendent of police (DSP rural) Sandeep Wadhera inspected the site and formed five teams to investigate the matter.
“The van came via Kaula Park and Sunami gate of the city. Police are scanning the CCTV footage of different locations as well to get more clues,” DSP Wadhera said.
“The accused appear to be in their late 30s. Police are probing the matter from different angles and will soon arrest the culprits,” SSP Sidhu said.
A case under Sections 394 (voluntarily causing hurt in committing robbery) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and 25/54/ 59 of the Arms Act has been registered against the duo at the city police station.
