One killed in ammo dump blast at Dasuya army camp, 7 injured

HOSHIARPUR: An ammunition dump blast at an army camp in Dasuya on the Jalandhar-Pathankot highway on Tuesday killed a technician of the Jabalpur ordnance factory and injured seven others.

The blast occurred around 3.30 pm when an ordnance factory team was inspecting the ammunition as a routine procedure, the police said.

The deceased has been identified as Ajay Pandey who hailed from Madhya Pradesh. His body has been kept at the Dasuya civil hospital mortuary.

Among the injured is a subedar rank official. Of the seven injured, five were rushed to the Dasuya civil hospital from where two were shifted to a Jalandhar hospital where their condition is stated to critical. Subedar Davinder Singh, who brought the body to the civil hospital in Dasuya, said two injured had been admitted to the Pathankot military hospital.

No army officer was available for comments. The public relation wing of the camp feigned ignorance about the incident. The armymen who were attending on the injured also refused to talk to the media.

Defence spokespers­on at Chandigarh, Anil Gour, expressed helplessne­ss in giving any details about the accident.

Hoshiarpur senior superinten­dent of police J Elanchazhi­an said he had no official word from army regarding the incident.

“What we have gathered is that a team from the ordnance factory was on an annual inspection visit to the camp when the blast took place,” he said.
