Unbeaten India get set for Korea

DONGHAE CITY (KOREA): The Indian women’s hockey team will take on hosts Korea in its last roundrobin match at the 5th Women’s Asian Champions Trophy here.

The team led by defender Sunita Lakra remains unbeaten in the tournament, having won against Japan (4-1), China (3-1) and Malaysia (3-2).

While playing the World No.9 side in their home ground will be a challengin­g affair for the Indian team, it will serve as an ideal preparatio­n for the Final on Sunday where they will play Korea who have won two matches (3-1 against Malaysia, 3-1 against China) and drawn one (1-1 against Japan) in the roundrobin stage.

422 FOR PRO KABADDI LEAGUE AUCTION

NEWDELHI: The player auction for the sixth season of the Pro Kabaddi League will be held in Mumbai on May 30 and 31. A total of 422 players will be drafted into the auction pool of which 58 will be from overseas and 87 from the Future Kabaddi Heroes Programme (FKH), a nationwide talent scouting programme. The auctions will see top players from 14 other countries including Iran, Bangladesh, Japan, Kenya, Republic of Korea, Malaysia, Sri Lanka. Out of the 12 franchises, nine have chosen their elite retained players and the remaining three will construct their teams from scratch. The total salary purse available to each team will be ~4 crore.

LAHIRI TIED 44

DALLAS: India’s Anirban Lahiri shot three-under 68 in the opening round to lie tied 44th at the AT&T Byron Nelson Championsh­ips golf. Lahiri hit five birdies against two bogeys. Australian Marc Leishman opened with a 10-under 61 round to lead.
