Tips for staying happily married ever after

Keeping your wife in good humour is an art. Sometimes it takes a naive husband years to master this art.

Thankfully, the era in which I walked down the aisle with my wife was not under the invasion of technology. Had it been the case, I would certainly have lost my hard-to-please wife. But no married man will dare to disagree that marriage is not all about walking a few times around the sacred fire. In order to keep his marital life safe from the figurative heat of the fire, the poor husband has to learn a new set of skills, which is otherwise not at all necessary for a happily unmarried man.

Leaving aside all other academic qualifications, a husband or a hubby-to-be must acquire deeper knowledge of women’s psychology. Though all women have different deportments yet they have certain stark similarities.

In my two-decade-long happy and smooth marital life, I have garnered many experiences that have kept this bond spiritedly alive and kicking. To begin with, though the kitchen is considered the domain of the wife, a good husband must be a good cook as well. Waking your wife up with a cup of tea prepared by you will give a nice start to your day.

The day your house help does not turn up, your gentle wife will turn into a grumpy one. Before she begins to fret and fume, you better hold the broom and go on a cleaning spree at home. And why should only women wash the utensils and clothes? You can also try your hand at these skills. It will buttress your case of caring love for your better half.

Every month whether you get your salary on time or not is not the issue, but your wife’s cupboard must be full to the brim with new arrivals. After all, fashion and fads change quickly. In the shopping mall, footing the bill alone is not adequate. A good husband must also show a keen interest in his wife’s shopping sojourn. Fake or real interest does not matter.

When your wife gets ready for the kitty party, it is not only your job to drop her at the venue but also to lavish generous praise on her looks in order to safeguard your marriage. Guard against praising the beauty of any other woman in her presence. You can reserve that compliment for some other safer occasion.

Taking equal pains in ensuring that your children ace their exams is also pivotal to a happy married life. So start learning nursery rhymes by heart. It will elevate your position in the eyes of your darling wife.

You may not have a special fondness for your wife’s relatives. But even if a distant relative from your wife’s side happens to arrive, you dare not give him a cold shoulder. Otherwise your well-built shoulders may not remain so for long.

Last but not the least, never give the impression that your marriage has gone stale over the years by forgetting your sweetheart’s birthday and your wedding anniversary. Such a blunder can derail the bogie of your blissful marital life in no time.

So friends, marriage is a very fragile affair. Handle it with care.
