SIDHU’S SON, 27 OTHERS APPOINTED LAW OFFICERS

CHANDIGARH: Punjab local bodies minister Navjot Singh Sidhu’s son Karan Sidhu is among the 28 law officers the Punjab government appointed on Thursday. Among the kin of politicians and judges include Punjab and Haryana high court judge Raj Shekhar Attri’s daughter Rashmi Attri; justice (retd) Ranjit Singh’s daughter Simran Grewal Randhawa; former retired chief justice of Andhra Pradesh high court MS Liberhan’s daughter Maloo Chahal.

CHANDIGARH: Local bodies minister Navjot Singh Sidhu’s son Karan Sidhu is among the 28 law officers the Punjab government appointed on Thursday.

On April 25, the state government had also appointed Sidhu’s wife Navjot Kaur Sidhu, a former MLA, as the director and chairperson of the Punjab Warehousing Corporation.

Among the kin of politicians and judges are Punjab and Haryana high court judge Raj Shekhar Attri’s daughter Rashmi Attri; justice (retd) Ranjit Singh’s daughter Simran Grewal Randhawa; former retired chief justice of Andhra Pradesh high court MS Liberhan’s daughter Maloo Chahal.

SPS Tinna, former secretary, Punjab and Haryana high court Bar Association, a close aide of Punjab Congress president Sunil Jakhar, is also among the appointees.

As many as 27 law officers, including four additional advocates general, 11 deputy advocates general, 13 assistant advocates general will be posted in Chandigarh while one will be posted as assistant advocate general in New Delhi.

Anu Pal, younger sister of justice Lisa Gill of the Punjab and Haryana high court, has been appointed as deputy advocate general.

She was assistant advocate general in the high court.

On June 30, 2017, the Punjab government had appointed 121 law officers after the Captain Amarinder Singh government took charge in March.

With these appointments, the number of law officers has gone up to 156. As per a work assessment carried out by the state advocate general Atul Nanda, a total of 154 law officers were to be appointed.

However, the government has been arguing that it has brought down the number of law officers from 215 appointed during the previous SAD-BJP tenure.

Nanda was not available for comments.
