Sikhs unsafe in Rajasthan’s Mewat region, says SGPC
BHARATPUR (RAJASTHAN)/CHANDIGARH:A three-member delegation of the Sikh community met Bharatpur superintendent of police Anil Kumar Tank to seek legal action against miscreants who looted a gurdwara on May 16. The delegation also highlighted the issue of security for Sikhs and Hindus on Monday.
The delegation, led by member of Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) Amritsar Gurvendra Singh Mathru, also handed over a memorandum to solve their grievances.
Nearly half a dozen miscreants entered a gurdwara located in Sahsan village, in the Mewat region, and attacked women, children and men and looted cash and jewellery at gunpoint late on May 16 night.
The victims registered a police complaint and staged a sit-in the next day where police officials, led by Kaman circle officer Rai Singh Beniwal, assured them that guilty will arrested soon.
Delhi Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee’s member Bhupendra Singh Bhullar said that the nine hectares of land marked for a crematorium for Sikhs have been merged with a graveyard. “In Mewat region, miscreants attack and loot members of Sikh and Hindu communities. The police have assured us to solve our problems on the spot,” Bhullar said.

Meanwhile, in Chandigarh, Punjab chief minister Amarinder Singh urged his Karnataka counterpart HD Kumaraswamy to ensure a thorough inquiry and stern action against the culprits involved in the alleged attack on a Sikh man in Gulbarga over “fake WhatsApp news”. Request you Shri @hd_kumaraswamy ji to ensure stringent action against culprits, and full protection for Sikh community and their religious rights in your state(sic),” Amarinder Singh said. Avtar Singh was reportedly thrashed by a mob on suspicion of being a child lifter following fake “WhatsApp forwards” about people from certain states coming to Karnataka and abducting children, and also harvesting their organs.
