REHAM KHAN’S BOOK: JEMIMA THREATENS TO FILE LAWSUIT

-

ISLAMABAD : Jemima Goldsmith, the former wife of cricketerturned-politician Imran Khan, on Wednesday warned she would file a defamation suit against Reham Khan, his second wife, if her “libellous” autobiography is published in the UK.

Goldsmith’s warning came soon after Reham’s lawyer Yasser Latif Hamdani said the upcoming book is not intended at influencing Pakistan’s general election as is being alleged by Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreeke-Insaf (PTI) party.

In a tweet, Goldsmith said that though she had been assured Reham’s book was too “libellous” to be published in the UK, she would sue on behalf of her son for defamation and breach of privacy if it did see the light of day.

“I will be suing for defamation and breach of privacy on behalf of my (then) 16-year-old son and in relation to the moronic, re-hashed Zionist conspiracy theories,” she said in a tweet.

In an interview with The Express Tribune, Hamdani said the notion that the book is intended to influence the elections is “entirely manufactured by the PTI camp”.

He added, “The book, as far as I know, is going to be published either in July or even August.” He said he hadn’t spoken to Reham about the publication date, which is a “closely guarded secret”.

On a defamation notice sent to Reham by her first husband Ijaz Rehman, cricket legend Wasim Akram, businessman Zulfikar Bukhari and PTI official Anila Khawaja Hamdani said, “We have no knowledge of any such letter or legal notice.”
