AMRITSAR : The Kambo police of the district on Thursday booked three people for allegedly killing an 18-year-old boy, Kehar Singh, on Wednesday night.

Kehar Singh was brought to the civil hospital by one of his friends, Jaswinder Singh, of Preet Nagar, in an injured condition. But, he disappeared after leaving him there as Kehar died before reaching the hospital.

When family members reached the hospital on Wednesday night after they were informed by one of their relatives that he saw Kehar being taken to the hospital, he was already dead. They saw a bullet wound behind his ear.

The accused have been identified as Gurjant Singh of Mirakot, Gurpinder Singh of Bua Nangli and Simar of Loharka.

Kehar’s elder brother Mehar Singh, while taking to HT, had said on Wednesday that his brother Kehar was a student of Class 12.

“Kehar used to do a part time job as a photographer in Amritsar. On Wednesday evening, he went somewhere with his friends. Around 8 pm, one of our relatives saw Kehar, who was injured, being taken to hospital on a motorcycle. He informed us. When we reached the civil hospital, we found his body with a bullet wound behind his right ear in the hospital premises,” he had said.

Senior superintendent of police, rural (SSP) Parampal Singh and deputy superintendent of police (DSP-investigation) Amandeep Kaur had reached the hospital.

The police arrested one of the friends of the victim, Jaswinder Singh, of Preet Nagar for interrogation as he was with the victim at the time of the incident on Wednesday night.

Station house officer (SHO) of Kambo police station, Nirmal Singh, said Jaswinder told them that a few days ago, the victim and the accused had an altercation.

“According to Jaswinder on Wednesday night, he and Kehar were on their way back home from Amritsar when the accused waylaid them and started thrashing them. One of the accused Gurjant fired from his pistol and the bullet hit Kehar behind his ear. He died while being taken to the hospital,” said the station house officer.

The SHO said a case under section 302 (punishment for murder) and 25-54-59 of the Arms Act had been registered against the accused, who are absconding.

“Police teams have been dispatched to arrest the accused,” he added.
