ONE KAITHAL HEAD CONSTABLE ARRESTED ALONG WITH ROBBERY CONVICT AND A TAXI DRIVER, TWO OTHER COPS BOOKED

KARNAL: The police have arrested a cop posted at Kaithal for allegedly helping a convict, who was under treatment at the PostGraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, to commit crimes and return to the hospital.

The accused has been identified as Ravi Shankar, an exemptee head constable (EHC). Convict Rajesh Kumar and a taxi driver Gagan Singh, who too was involved in the crime, have also been nabbed.

They were arrested from a house in Burail area of Chandigarh on Tuesday morning.

The police claimed that two more cops, EHC Ajit Singh and ASI Ishwar Singh of Kaithal police, deployed in the convict’s security, also helped him to go out from the PGIMER and commit the crime. They are on the run and efforts were on to arrest them.

Talking to Hindustan Times, Karnal city station house officer (SHO) Mohan Lal said Rajesh Kumar is involved in 15 cases of loot, robbery and attempt to murder in Kaithal and other districts. He was arrested by the Kaithal police.

He said Rajesh was convicted in a robbery case around two months ago and was admitted to PGIMER for treatment.

However, the convict managed to establish a good rapport with the cops and they allegedly helped him to go out from the hospital and return back after committing crimes.

The SHO said that they are yet to get the details of the crime he committed since he was admitted in the PGIMER.

With the help of the cops, he was also involved in betting on IPL matches.

The SHO said during the interrogation, the accused revealed that on May 29, they hired a taxi from Chandigarh and reached Karnal where Rajesh allegedly looted ornaments from a woman while the cop and taxi driver were waiting for him in car. He said that besides cases of robbery and loot, the police have also booked the cops under Section 166 and 120 B of IPC. The police also recovered 90 gm gold ornaments from their possession.
