20 hurt in clashes during Eid celebratio­ns in Mewat village

GURURGAM: At least 20 persons were injured after two groups clashed at Rahadi village in Mewat on Saturday during Eid celebratio­ns.

Maintainin­g that two cases of rioting and assault were registered at Tauru police station on Saturday night, police said no arrest has been made yet.

Police said the clashes erupted after morning namaz, when a discussion between two groups of Muslim men on Eid celebratio­ns flared up.

Police said the groups then allegedly indulged in stone pelting and assault. The injured were rushed to a private hospital, where they suffered head injuries and fractures.

Inspector Vijay Anand, SHO, Tauru city police, said that a case under sections of rioting and causing hurt has been registered and they are recording statements of members of both the groups to ascertain the sequence of events.

“After the 9 am namaz and a feast that followed, the groups fought among themselves. The injured are admitted in Shaheed Hasan Khan Mewati Government Medical College, Nalhar, Nuh. Eight of them have sustained severe injuries. We will record their statements on Sunday morning,” Anand said, adding, “No arrests have been made yet.”

Police said they have deployed teams in the area to prevent a flare up and have also roped in religious leaders and elders of both the groups to defuse tension.
