AMRITSAR :Terming critics of the Centre’s decision to refund goods and services tax (GST) on the purchase of raw material for langar (free meal) in religious institutions, ‘enemy of Panth’, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), on Saturday, got published an advertisement in newspapers to hail the Centre’s decision.

A section of the advertisement, published under the signatures of SGPC chief Gobind Singh Longowal, reads: “It is a need that Sikhs should abstain themselves from the dirty propaganda being run by the enemy of Sikh Panth, against the Centre’s decision to refund GST.”

“The langar at the Guru’s adobe is not dependent on any grant and getting back our own money is our right and the propaganda against this right is the conspiracy of the opponents of the Panth,” the ad added. The ad comes amid strong criticism from some sections of the community against the Centre’s ‘Sewa Bhoj Yojana’, under which the GST charged on the purchase of langar items will be refunded. This is not for the first time that the SGPC has taken the help of an advertisement to justify its stand. Whenever controversies erupt, the SGPC tries to justify its stand through costly advertisements.
