JAMMU: A swarm of people with moist eyes descended upon Salani village in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district on Saturday to bid farewell to 44 RR soldier Aurangzeb, who was laid to rest on the festival of Eidul-Fitr.

The son of the soil was laid to rest with full military honours at the graveyard of his native village in Salani.

Enraged over barbaric killing of Aurangzeb on the eve of Eid, people raised anti-Pakistan slogans and slogans of ‘Shaheed Aurangzeb Amar Rahe’.

Mohammed Hanief, father of the slain soldier, has asked the Centre to crush militancy once for all. Aurangzeb, one among six brothers, was a buddy of Major Shukla, who eliminated Lashkar ultra Sameer Tiger in Kashmir recently.

Trying to come to grips with the reality, Mohammed Hanief asked the commanding officer of his son’s unit, “Why do these people unfurl Pakistani flags in Kashmir and why Tricolour is not unfurled there?”

“Indian flags should be unfurled across the Valley,” he said.

“Mera Bahadur Beta Desh Ke Liye Qurban Ho Gya. Mein Aur Mera Bada Beta Bhi Taiyyar Hain Desh Par Qurban Hone Ke Liye. Hum Bhi Apni Jaan De Denge (My son has sacrificed his life for India. I and my elder son are also ready to die for the country,” he told the commanding officer, who pacified Hanief and said every soldier of his unit was Aurangzeb for him.

“My son has kept his promise. He sacrificed himself for the nation and came back to me. I request the central and the state governments to eliminate militancy,” Hanief told scribes at Salani.

Hanief had earlier served a 72-hour ultimatum to the government to seek and kill those who killed his son.

“I am giving the Prime Minister Narendra Modi 72-hours for avenging my son’s killing, otherwise we are ready to take revenge on our own,” he said.

Aurangzeb’s younger brother, Mohammed Assan, 16, Class 10 student, said, “I will try my best to join the Indian Army. If selected, I will request the Army to post me in Kashmir.”

“I want to continue the work of my elder brother of eliminating terrorists. My brother was a fighter and will remain an inspiration for me.”

Salani and Kasblari villages in Mendhar sub-division of Poonch district has majority of families, which have given their men to the Indian Army.

Earlier, terrorists released a video of Aurangzeb whose bullet-ridden body was recovered from Gussu village, about 10km away from Kalampora, in Pulwama district on Thursday evening.
