Direct transfer of money for school uniform, says Soni
‘GHAR GHAR ROZGAR’ Education minister distributes offer letters among 2,022 teachers
AMRITSAR:School education minister OP Soni distributed appointment letters to 2,022 teachers at a state-level function held under the theme of ‘Ghar Ghar Rozgar’, at the Guru Nanak Stadium in the city on Friday. Soni also announced that instead of providing free uniform, money would be transferred directly to bank accounts of students studying in government schools.
Referring to the mid-day meal contract scheme he said, “We are planning to scrap that scheme as well and introduce direct transfer.” With the CM failing to make it, Soni presided over the meeting as the chief guest. According to him, “The CM could not turn up as experts advised him to not fly in such bad eat her .” Appointment letters were given to candidates who cleared the test conducted by Guru Nanak Dev University in 2017. Against 3,582 vacancies, some seats remained vacant with not enough candidates making the cut. For Social Studies, the number of posts is 252, for Mathematics 504, for Science 977 and 289 for Punjabi.
Revenue minister Sukhbinder Singh Sarkaria, Amritsar MP Gurjit Singh Aujla and all MLAs from Amritsar were present on the occasion. Besides, Amritsar MLAs — Raj Kumar Verka, Sunil Dutti, Inderbir Singh Bolaria, Tarsem Singh DC, Santokh Singh Bhalaipur and Harpartap Singh Ajnala, MLAs from Tarn Taran — Harminder Singh Gill and Dharambir Agnihotri were present.
DRUG MENACE IN PUNJAB
Many speakers, including Verka, raised the issue of drugs claiming many lives in Punjab. “The drug menace is the biggest danger to the state,” Verka added. “It is an achievement of the Congress government that it has stopped the supply of narcotics,” said Sarkaria.
