Shwait wants Centre to intervene to save Punjab from drugs
AMRITSAR Punjab BJP president and Rajya Sabha MP Shwait Malik has urged the Centre to intervene to save Punjab from drug abuse, alleging that the state government has failed to get rid of the menace.
In a statement issued here, Malik said he called on Union home minister Rajnath Singh at New Delhi on Sunday and sought the Centre’s intervention to save Punjab from this “new kind of terrorism”.
Malik said he told Rajnath that deaths due to drug overdose are happening every day in Punjab.
He said the state government has failed miserably to put an end to the menace of drugs. “Due to the wrong policies of the state government, the youth of Punjab is badly shaken by drug addiction, but the chief minister of Punjab has given attention to the luxury of his responsibilities rather than fulfilling his responsibilities.”
He said that in the past few days, the number of people killed due to drug addiction has increased, from which it is clear that drug smugglers in Punjab have no fear of the state government.
BJP TO LAUNCH STIR AGAINST GOVT TODAY
Malik said the BJP will launch a statewide stir from Amritsar on Monday against the Captain Amarinder Singh government over the drug menace that has claimed many lives.
“Under the stir, protests will be staged in all 33 districts of the state to corner the state government. There is an emergency like situation in the state and an agitation is needed to make the government wake up from its deep slumber,” he said.
