ROHTAK: Sonepat deputy commissioner Vinay Singh on Tuesday suspended the Pipli village head, who is presently absconding after gunning down a youth and seriously injuring another.

The sarpanch, Ram Nivash, had allegedly targeted the people who he suspected had filed an RTI application seeking details against him about his land fraud.

“After receiving the report from the superintendent of police that mentioned serious charges like murder and attempt to murder on Pipli sarpanch, I have suspended him under the relevant sections of the Panchayati Raj Act,” Singh said.

Meanwhile, as the sarpanch continues to be on the run, his terror among the villagers has forced them to stay confined to their houses.

A team of 30 cops has been deployed for the security of eight people, who had expressed danger to their lives from the sarpanch.

They have been given a gunman by the police.

The sarpanch had first shot at a 35-year-old man on June 12, but he managed to survive the attack. On June 25, the village head gunned down a 24-year-old man while he was working out in a gym close to his house.

The police said nine teams have been chasing the accused, who has till now managed to dodge them.

The police recently arrested two men from Rohtak for allegedly giving shelter to the accused, but he managed to run away.
