FOUR HELD WITH 900GM HEROIN IN SANGRUR
SANGRUR: Four persons allegedly involved in drug smuggling were arrested by the Sangrur police on Monday.
During a press conference here on Tuesday, police officials said that they have recovered 900gm heroin (chitta), 1,000 Alprasafe-05 (anti-anxiety drug) tablets and a vehicle with fake registration number from the accused. The accused were identified as Avtar Singh, 40, Jagtar Singh, 32, and Gurmeet Singh alias Shinda, 34, of Dhuri, and Rajinder Singh, 34, of Nabha.
Acting on a tip-off, police, led by Dhuri deputy superintendent of police (DSP) AK Aulakh, had nabbed the accused at a checkpoint on Manwala road near Dhuri. The accused had reportedly purchased the contraband from an African national in New Delhi for ₹11 lakh, and were planning to sell at double rates in the region.
Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Mandeep Singh Sidhu said that police was keeping an eye on the accused since long. “We are coordinating with the Delhi Police to know about the modus operandi of the African national (whose identity was not revealed),” Sidhu said.
The SSP added that they will investigate further to find the supply sources of ‘Chitta.’
Apart from the contraband, police also seized an Alto car, two motorcycles, two scooters, two refrigerators, three washing machines, two water coolers, two LCDs, 15 gas cylinders, two steel almirahs, one double bed and sofa set from the accused’s residence.
