POLICE ‘MISBEHAVE’ WITH ADDICT’S WIFE, PROBE MARKED

-

BATALA:Wife of a drug addict blamed the Batala police of misbehaving with her on Wednesday evening.

Taking a strict note of this incident, Batala senior superintendent of police (SSP) Opinderjit Singh has marked an inquiry.

According to information, a police team led by assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Kuldeep Singh from Kotli Surat Malhi police station went to the house of Simranpreet Kaur (the complainant) at Shikar Massian village and asked her about her husband, who is a drug addict. However, Simranpreet told the cops that her husband was lodged in Central Jail, Gurdaspur, since the last two years in a case of drug trafficking.

The woman alleged that the ASI refused to believe her and humiliated her in front of other villagers and also accused her of being involved in the drug trade.

“As I tried to show the documents pertaining to my husband’s imprisonment, the ASI kept asking me to produce my husband and later started abusing me. All this happened in the presence of villagers,” Simranpreet said.

When contacted, SHO, Kotli Surat Malhi police station, Avtar Singh, he denied the allegation and said that the ASI did not use any foul language against the woman.

“Simranjeet’s husband Sarabjit Singh is an addict and is behind bars for selling drugs in surrounding villages. Simranjeet too helped her husband in the trade. On Wednesday, when the team went to the village to motivate the addicts against drugs, Simranjeet started misbehaving with the police team over her husband’s arrest,” he said. Meanwhile, refuting the allegations of the SHO, Simranpreet asked the SHO to produce evidence of her involvement in the drug trade.
