₹36lakh gold seized at Amritsar airport
AMRITSAR: Officials of the customs department have seized 754gm heroin and 14gm hashish worth ₹3.7 crore and six gold bars weighing 900gm and gold jewellery worth ₹36 lakh from the Attari railway station and the Amritsar airport respectively. Three people, including two Turkmenistan nationals, carrying gold, were arrested.

Commissioner of customs (preventive) Dipak Gupta said here on Sunday that 3 packets of heroin weighing 294.4 gm, 300.4 gm and 306 gm and a packet of dark brown substance, suspected to be hashish, weighing 14.2gm, were recovered from empty wagons attached to 68 DN goods train, that arrived at the Attari railway station from Pakistan on Saturday.
“The packets were concealed in the lower side cavities in two wagons,” he said. He said the value of the recovered substances is about ₹3.7 crore in the international market.
Gupta said gold was seized at the Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport in two cases on Saturday.
He said six cut pieces of foreign-origin gold bars weighing 901 gm (24 carat), valued at ₹27.3 lakh, were seized from a passenger of Air India flight (AI-016) at the airport here. He had tied them to his rectum.
Gupta said gold jewellery worth ₹8.5 lakh was seized from two Turkmenistan nationals, who arrived at the airport via a Turkmenistan flight.
He, however, didn’t disclose the names of the accused from whom gold bars and jewellery were seized.
