MOHALI: A day after alleged gangster Samuel Masih was killed in an encounter with the Mohali police in Nanina Devi town of Himachal Pradesh, a local court on Sunday remanded his two accomplices in police custody till July 18.

Police sought the remand of Amanpreet and Goldi Masih for recovering more weapons from them. The trio, along with two others, had snatched a Hyundai Verna from a person in Mohali on Friday night, after which they were chased by the police.

“Two pistols have been recovered from them and during the interrogation, it was found that they have more weapons,” said a cop privy to the investigations.

Meanwhile, the body of Samuel Masih has been handed over to his family after post-mortem.

Sources said Samuel and his aides were drunk at the time of encounter, but no others drugs were traced from Samuel’s body.

“There were three gunshot wounds on his body,” said a Himachal cop, requesting anonymity.

After the encounter, police arrested Amanpreet of Morinda and Goldi Masih of Dera Baba Nanak, Gurdaspur, and recovered the snatched Verna along with two .30 bore pistols and cartridges. Two of Samuel’s other aides — Sanju of Moga and Varun Sood of Morinda —who managed to escape were also detained late Saturday night. The cops have recovered the white Ritz car used by them before carjacking on Landran road on Friday night.

After the HP police complete their probe, the Mohali police will claim custody of the duo by way of production warrant.
