RAM NATH KOVIND, President

FATEHABAD: President Ram Nath Kovind on Sunday said Kabir was a great social reformer whose teachings were as relevant on present day as in his time.

He said this while addressing an event to mark Kabir Jayanti in Fatehabad district on Sunday.

“Kabir always talked about brotherhood and wrote literature on social harmony. He was a man who never thought about caste and creed,” the President said.

Congratulating the Centre and state government for launching ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ scheme, Kovind said it has helped in improving the condition of girl children in Haryana.

The President, who was accompanied by Haryana governor Kaptan Singh Solanki and transport minister Krishan Lal Panwar, said, “As the monsoon sessions of Parliament and state assemblies are going to commence soon, I hope the legislators will carry forward their work for the public through debate and dialogue.”

Meanwhile, Solanki said it was a proud moment that the President visited Fatehabad and interacted with the gathering.

While reading the welcome note on behalf of CM Khattar, transport minister Panwar said, “The chief minister has apologised for not being able to come to Fatehabad. He has assured that he will remain present in the events involving the President in future.”

Meanwhile, a large number of followers of self-styled jailed godman Sant Rampal also reached the venue.

‘IT’S A MAHAKUMBH’

Former Rajya Sabha member from Madhya Pradesh, Dada Narayan Kesari, said, “We have decided to spread the teachings of Kabir in different states. With the help of local administration and other societies, we managed to organise this ‘Mahakumbh’ in which people from all over the country participated.”
