5 arrested for revealing raiding party’s location

KARNAL: The Karnal police on Sunday arrested five people for allegedly revealing location of a raiding party of Road Transport Authority (RTA) to drivers of overloadin­g trucks in Karnal.

The accused have been identified as Irfan Khan, Azam Khan, Mubarik, Sufian, all residents of Uttar Pradesh’s Shamli and Rihan of Balheda village of Karnal district. Karnal police crime investigat­ion agency’s in-charge Virender Singh said the accused used to chase the official vehicles of the raiding teams and share their location with the truck drivers on WhatsApp groups.

He said the police teams had a tip-off about the accused, who were arrested near a Karnal sugar mill on Saturday night. He said they have been booked under Sections 420, 453, 186 and 120 B of the IPC.

The police have also recovered five cars, seven mobile phones and ₹1.11 lakh in cash from their possession.

The police said three more persons — Vishal of Kaithal, Sanjeev and Sumit of Karnal — involved in this racket were absconding.

The arrested accused told the police that they used to charge ₹2,000 from each driver to tell them the location of the RTA teams, the CIA in-charge said.
