AKALIS ATTACK KEJRIWAL, QUESTION HIS PARTY’S INACTION AGAINST MLA CHARGED WITH MOLESTATION

CHANDIGARH/RUPNAGAR: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) state co-president Dr Balbir Singh on Saturday accused Capt Amarinder Singh-led Congress government in Punjab of misusing the state police machinery to implicate AAP legislator from Rupnagar Amarjit Singh Sandoa in a false case.

Meanwhile, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) asked AAP national convener and Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal why no action was being taken against Sandoa even after charges had been framed against him.

A Rupnagar court on Friday charged the MLA with molestation, a year after his former landlady had filed a complaint against him.

In a statement, Dr Balbir Singh said that both the Congress and SAD were afraid of AAP as an opposition party and were trying to malign its leaders with false allegations.

The state co-president said the case against Sandoa was an example of how both parties were working together to stop the AAP legislator from raising the voice of people.

Dr Balbir Singh said police had registered a case against the MLA on a bogus complaint without even taking his version.

Meanwhile, in a statement, SAD spokesman Maheshinder Singh Grewal said Kejriwal had made “safety of women” a major poll plank in the 2017 assembly elections.

“Now when his own legislator has been hauled up by the Rupnagar chief judicial magistrate, Kejriwal is maintaining a stoic silence. By doing so he is showing how much respect he has for the victim,” he said. The SAD leader said if Kejriwal was really serious about safety of women, he should remove Sandoa from the party and ask him to resign as a legislator.

In her complaint, the woman had alleged that Sandoa, who was her tenant till April 2017, had abused, shoved and threatened her when she visited him on July 28, 2017, to demand the pending rent. After a case was registered the following day, a special investigation team formed by the Rupnagar senior superintendent of police had found the allegations true and a challan was filed in court.
