SRINAGAR: A CRFP trooper was killed while two others were injured when militants attacked a paramilitary patrol party in Srinagar’s Batamaloo area before escaping from the spot on Tuesday. Police said the militants fired on the CRPF patrol party in a congested area of the city.
SRINAGAR: A Central Reserve Police Force (CRFP) trooper was killed while two others were injured when militants attacked a paramilitary patrol party in Srinagar’s Batamaloo area before escaping from the spot on Tuesday.
Police said the militants fired on the CRPF patrol party at busy Balgarden in the congested area of the city. “Terrorists fired at security force naka near Batmaloo,” a police spokesman said, adding that jawans showed restraint after they came under attack.
“Constable Shankar Lal has been martyred, while two others have been injured in the attack,” police said
Locals fled to safer places when they heard firing in the area. Soon after the attack, police and the CRPF cordoned the area and started a search for militants.
Meanwhile, terror outfit Hizbul Mujahideen called a local news agency and claimed the responsibility for the attack.
On July 13, two CRPF personnel, including an officer, were killed and a civilian was injured when militants attacked their vehicle at Achabal in south Kashmir, seven kilometres from Anantnag town.
Last week, militants had fired at a CRPF patrol at Mattan in south Kashmir. Fortunately, nobody was injured in the attack.
Around 45 security force personnel, including 24 men of J&K police, have been killed in different incidents and attacks on the forces since January.
