4 rob car at gunpoint from Amritsar’s Ranjit Avenue

AMRITSAR: In a second incident in three days, four unidentifi­ed carborne men looted a car from a driver at a gunpoint in Dussehra ground of Ranjit Avenue here, on Wednesday morning.

The Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire (PB-02-BY-0929) belonged to Deepak Gupta of Azad Nagar in Putlighar.

“Deepak’s driver Abhey Kumar, 35, of Shimla Market, was training Deepak’s son when robbers committed the crime,” police said.

In his complaint, Abhey said, “At 5:30am, I was teaching driving to Deepak’s son when four unidentifi­ed men in a Maruti Suzuki Baleno reached there. Three men came to me and one of them asked me to descend from my car. Out of fear, I gave the car’s key and the accused fled with the car.” Station house officer (SHO), Sukinder Singh, said a case under Section 379 B (snatching and use of force) of the Indian Penal Code and 25-54-59 of the Arms Act has been registered.”

“We are examining the footages of CCTV cameras installed and the accused will soon be arrested,” SHO added.

In a similar incident, on July 22, three armed persons took an Innova from a driver. The incident occurred in the parking lot of Hotel Clark Inn in Ranjit Avenue B-block. The vehicle belonged to a Delhi-based lawyer, Atul Kharbanda, who along with his family, came to visit the holy city. Atul’s driver Rajesh was having dinner in the vehicle when three motorcycle-borne attacked him with baseball bats and pulled him out. When he tried to resist, they beat him up and took out a pistol to intimidate him before fleeing with the vehicle.
