52-year-old killed, one hurt in Karnal clash

KARNAL: A 52-year-old man died on Tuesday and his brother in-law sustained serious injuries following a group clash at Inder Colony area of Karnal city on Sunday evening.

The deceased has been identified as Rakesh Kumar and injured as Arvind Kumar.

Both Rakesh and Arvind sustained injuries as they were attacked by five to six people on Sunday night following a dispute with their neighbours. They were rushed to the Kalpana Chawla Government Medical College and Hospital where Rakesh succumbed to the injuries on Tuesday.

The police have booked seven persons on charges of murder. According to Pradeep Kumar, a family member of the deceased, the accused attacked him and others with sticks and sharpedged weapons after a minor dispute.

Karnal city police station in-charge Mohan Lal said the FIR was registered under Sections 323(Punishment for voluntaril­y causing hurt), 427 (Mischief), 506 (Punishment for criminal intimidati­on) and 302 (punishment for murder) of the IPC against Rohit Kumar, his father Om Prakash, Sheela Devi, Sawan, Rohtash, Mangal and Ballu. He further said that the clash took place as accused Rohit suspected that Rakesh had informed the police that his brother Mangal was involved in a theft in their locality last week. Lal said the accused were rounded up and investigat­ion was going on. The body was handed over to the family members after postmortem.
