Woman booked for killing mom-in-law with ‘lover’s’ help
TWO YEARS AFTER THE INCIDENT, VICTIM’S DAUGHTER COMES TO INDIA FROM AUSTRALIA, LODGES COMPLAINT
AMRITSAR: The Mehta police have booked three persons, including a woman, for allegedly killing her mother-in-law at Butter Seviyan village, around 50km the town, on Tuesday.
Rajwinder Kaur, 59, was allegedly murdered in October 2016 but the police registered the case after her daughter Kuldeep Kaur, who lives in Australia, filed a complaint to the senior superintendent of police (SSP, rural) Parampal Singh.
The accused have been identified as Shagunpreet Kaur, her ‘paramour’ Satnam Singh and accomplice Jasbir Singh of the same village.
In her complaint with the police, Kuldeep stated that, “My brother died in 2015 and since then my mother and sister-inlaw, Shagunpreet, have been living alone in the house. On October 29, 2016, Shagunpreet called me and informed that my mother had died due to low sugar levels. I was pregnant at that time and couldn’t even return for my mother’s cremation.”
She further said, “When I came to India in July this year and the villagers informed me that Shagunpreet had killed my mother along with her paramour, Satnam Singh, and his accomplice Jasbir Singh. I immediately submitted a complaint to the SSP.”
“I was unable to come to India due to visa issues,” she added.
Kuldeep further alleged the Shagunpreet’s ‘illicit relations’ with Satnam Singh had started in 2014. “Now, I doubt that she also killed my brother, Sarabjit Singh, in 2015,” she said.
She alleged that the accused had strangulated her mother to death. “The villagers informed me that Shagunpreet and Satnam Singh gave ₹2.5 lakh to Jasbir Singh for the involvement in crime,” she said.
Mehta police sub-inspector (SI) Amandeep Singh said on the complaint of Kuldeep Kaur, a case under Sections 302 (punishment for murder), 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence, or giving false information to screen offender), 120B (punishment of criminal conspiracy) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of IPC has been registered against the accused, who are absconding.
