21 cattle recovered, Raj smugglers flee

BHARATPUR: The Bharatpur police had a run-in with people allegedly transporting cattle illegally to Haryana on Monday night. The alleged smugglers broke the barricades and when chased by police, they opened fire at them before fleeing the spot.

Police seized their truck and rescued 21 cattle heads, including a cow. Among them, thirteen cattle were found dead. They were cremated after post-mortem. Other animals were shifted to a cow shelter, police said.

Additional superintendent of police Prakash Chandra Sharma, said they received a tipoff on Monday night about a truck illegally transporting cattle to Haryana. “We alerted all police stations and asked them to put up barricades,” he said.

When a team from Sewar police station chased the accused after they broke police barricades, they opened fire at police. Later, the truck veered towards the Agra-Jaipur national highway where Rupwas police chased them. The alleged smugglers abandoned the truck near Jangi Ka Nagla village and disappeared into the darkness.

Police rescued the cattle in the truck and booked a case under Rajasthan Bovine Animal (Prevention of Slaughter and Regulation of Temporary Migration or Export) Act, 1995. The additional SP said that they are trying to identify the smugglers on the basis of information they receive from the transport office the truck’s registration number.
