23-year-old dies of ‘drug overdose’, 3 friends booked

KAPURTHALA: Three men were charged with negligence causing death after their 23-year-old friend on Tuesday died, allegedly due to drug overdose in Begowal.

The accused are Kaka of Nangal Lubana, Bura of Mundi Road and Buta of Maqsoodpur in Begowal , who have been booked under IPC Section 304.

Earlier, a case was registered under Section 174 of CrPC on the basis of deceased’s family’s statement, suspecting it to be case of natural death.

However, on Thursday, police changed the section after deceased’s mother claimed in her statement that his son Narinder Singh of Lubana village died of ‘drug overdose’.

She said he had gone with his four friends outside the village late on Monday, where he reportedly consumed something and fell unconsciou­s.

ASI Raghubir Singh said they had not recovered any intoxicati­ng or banned substance near his body.

As per earlier statements of the family that deceased had consumed excess sleeping pills, a case under Section 174 of the CrPC was registered.

The ASI said, “We have now registered a case against Narinder’s three friends, who are absconding , and were reportedly consuming drugs with the him when he died.”
