Indian golfers lie second in team event, Bedi 3rd in individual contest

JAKARTA: Young Kshitij Naveed Kaul produced a superb 68 as Indian golfers held on to the second position to put themselves in contention for a medal in men’s golf. Aadil Bedi, who had a bogey-free round of 69 on Thursday, added a two-under 70 on Friday, while Kaul shot a bogey-free 68 and Rayhan Thomas turned in 69 as India maintained their second position behind Japan in the race for team medals.

With top three cards from each day counting towards team positions, India are 12-under after two days and second to Japan at 18-under. South Korea are third at nine-under.

Bedi, Thomas and Kaul have had their cards counted both days for India.

Bedi, the second ranked amateur on Indian circuit, took his two-day total to 139 and individual­ly he was tied third while Thomas (71-69), got to four-under 140 to be tied fifth.

RIDERS IN SECOND POSITION AFTER DAY 1

JAKARTA: Indian riders put up a good performanc­e on the first day of the three-day equestrian event. Fouaad Mirza leads the field, in the individual category, with a score of 22.40. Jitinder Singh is lying in 4th position with a competitiv­e score of 28.80. Ashish Malik and Rakesh Kumar, the other two riders also delivered good scores. The combined team score of 86.30 puts them in second position, behind Japan at 81.40.
