Gold feat: Celebrations break out at Neeraj Chopra’s Panipat village
CHOPRA, SON OF A SMALL FARMER, HAS CREATED HISTORY BY BECOMING THE FIRST INDIAN JAVELIN THROWER TO WIN GOLD IN ASIAD
KARNAL: This was another golden day for the family members of Panipat’s Neeraj Chopra, who became the first Indian javelin thrower to win gold in Asian Games on Monday.
Earlier, this year Neeraj had became the first Indian javelin thrower to claim a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games in Australia .
His father Satish Kumar, who owns just one-and-a-half acres of agricultural land, said, “I feel proud of my son. He has taken us to new heights. I wish he will win gold in Olympics too”
There were celebrations at the Khandra village, where Neeraj lives in a joint family. Right before his performance villagers and family members remained glued to the television sets to watch his live performance.
Soon after his victory, more people gathered at Neeraj’s residence and celebrated his win by distributing sweets.
Neeraj’s Mother Saroj Bala said, “I am happy with the achievement of my son who he has brought laurels for the country again.”
Neeraj created history in 2016 by becoming the first Indian athlete to bag the title of world champion by clinching the gold medal at the U-20 World Championships in Poland. He was then posted as a Subedar in the army and also pursuing his graduation from Kurukshetra University.
Meanwhile, chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar has congratulated him for his achievement.
