CHANDIGARH: Maintaining that the cycle rally led by him did not disrupt the movement of the ambulance in which a new-born was being shifted in Sonepat last week, Haryana Congress president Ashok Tanwar on Monday alleged that the ruling BJP was trying to defame the Congress and him by “concocting facts”.

The pre-mature newborn, who was shifted from a private hospital (Divya Hospital) in Sonepat on August 21 to the civil hospital and later to PGIMS, Rohtak, had died. The Sonepat police had registered a case against unknown persons in the rally, which allegedly delayed the ambulance in which the new-born was being shifted.

Talking to mediapersons here, Tanwar claimed that the rally in no manner hindered the movement of the ambulance. Rather, the incident exposed the poor state of affairs of health services in the state, he added.

“We have learnt that Divya Hospital is not authorised to undertake deliveries, yet it admitted the pregnant woman. When the condition of the premature baby deteriorated, it was shifted to the civil hospital in an ambulance which did not have oxygen facility,” he held.

Tanwar said the child was alive when it reached the civil hospital and later PGIMS, Rohtak. “Though the report of the civil hospital and PGIMS, Rohtak, held that baby was alive on arrival, the police in its report said the baby died in the ambulance,” he claimed adding that the government was thus concocting facts to blame the rally and him.
