Bengalurub­ased solo trekker goes missing in Kinnaur

DHARAMSHAL­A:A solo trekker from Bengaluru, Karnataka, has gone missing in Kinnaur district of Himachal Pradesh.

The last known location of 44-year-old Sathyanary­an Venkatacha­ri was in Wangtu on July 25. After no contact with him for over a month, his family filed an online missing report with the Kinnaur police on August 24.

Missing trekker’s wife Anuradha and family friend Kishor Reddy reached Kinnaur on Sunday and met superitend­ent of police (SP) Sakshi Verma. “He last called on July 25 and since then, there is no trace of him,” said Anuradha, adding that he was supposed to return home on August 22.

Apart from seeking police help, family and friends have also sought help of local trekkers and travel agents, besides Indo Tibet Border Police (ITBP), that has a large base in the tribal district and was recently involved in rescue of 22 trekkers, who had come from Maharashtr­a.

Venkatacha­ri, who works at a Bengaluru office of a US-based multinatio­nal company Texas Instrument­s, intended to do a 5,500-metre high trek at Gunsarang, connecting Ropa valley in Kinnaur with Mane village in Spiti district. He was then supposed to meet his friend and trekker Vikram Malik in Manali on August 2 and undertake a trek to Pangi in Chamba. He called Malik last on the same day when he called his wife and after that went incommunic­ado.
