HISAR: A 22-year-old man barged into a house at Begu village in Sirsa and opened fire on a woman, police said on Wednesday, adding that when villagers gathered at the spot, the accused locked himself in a room before shooting himself dead.

The condition of the injured woman is stated to be out of danger.

Police have registered a case against the deceased identified as Bhupender Saini, a resident of Sirsa city.

Sadar station house officer (SHO) Jagdish Joshi said, “It was around 11am when Bhupender barged into the house of one Madan Lal and opened fire on his daughter-in-law upon finding her alone in the living room. The victim’s mother-inlaw, who was in the kitchen at that time, came out and raised alarm.”

Joshi said as villagers gathered at the house, the accused locked himself in a room of the same house and pumped a bullet into his head with an unlicensed gun. He died on the spot, Joshi added.

Police said a case under Sections 307 (attempt to murder) and 342 (wrongful confinement) of the IPC and relevant sections of the Arms Act has been registered against Bhupender.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the youth used to misbehave with the victim, who teaches at a local private school,” the SHO said.

The body was sent for postmortem examination at the Sirsa general hospital.
