Three mobiles, 15gm heroin seized from Amritsar jail

AMRITSAR: The authoritie­s of Amritsar Central Jail have seized three mobile phones from three prisoners and 15 gram heroin from the jail premises during the routine checking on Tuesday.

On the complaint of the jail authoritie­s, Islamabad police have registered three separate cases against three prisoners and an unidentifi­ed person on Wednesday.

The accused inmates have been identified as Ghaniya Lal of Gurdaspur, Gurpreet Singh of Mustfabad Colony in Amritsar, and Harpreet Singh of Patti in Tarn Taran.

In the first complaint, assistant jail superinten­dent (AJS) Ravail Singh said, “During a routine checking in the jail, we recovered a mobile phone each from Ghaniya and Gurpreet.” While, the second complaint has been lodged by AJS Samsher Singh who said while making a physical search of the jail prisoners on Tuesday, he recovered a mobile phone from the possession of Harpreet Singh. In the third complaint, AJS Raja Navdeep Singh said, “We conducted a surprise patrolling in jail on Tuesday, during which we recovered unclaimed 15gm heroin.”

Assistant sub inspector (ASI) Kuldeep Singh of Islamabad police station said three separate cases under Sections 42, 52 A of the Prisons Act and 21-61-85 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotrop­ic Substances Act have been registered against the accused.

On August 16, the jail authoritie­s had recovered three mobile phones from the possession of three inmates inside the jail.
