India’s appeal in 4x400m mixed relay rejected

JAKARTA: India’s silver medal in the 4x400m mixed relay will not be upgraded to gold after the protest against champions Bahrain was rejected by the Asian Games’ Jury of Appeals on Wednesday.

India had lodged a protest, stating that a Bahraini runner had obstructed Hima Das during the race in which India finished second after MR Poovamma frittered away a good 30m lead. The Indian quartet of Muhammed Anas, Poovamma, Hima and Arokia Rajiv had clocked 3 minute and 15.71 seconds to finish behind Bahrain (3:11.89) in the event.

LOSS IN KURASH

JAKARTA:India’s Megha Tokas lost 0-3 to Indonesia’s Shifa Khasani Najmu in women 63 kg quarter-final of Kurash event.

ALBEN CRASHES OUT

JAKARTA:Esow Alben crashed out of the men’s sprint in the prequarter­s while Monorama Devi failed to complete the women’s omnium event in a disappoint­ing day for India in cycling. Esow lost to Chaebin Im of South Korea. In men’s sprint, Ranjit Singh was unable to go beyond the Round of 32, losing to Puguh Admadi of Indonesia. In men’s 4000m Individual Pursuit, Manjeet Singh finished 12th, clocking 4:43.714, 24.042 seconds behind leader Sanghoon Park of South Korea.

SIMRAN, SONIA LAST

JAKARTA: India’s Sonia finished last in the women’s doubles event of pencak silat. The duo scored a total of 527 points, 47 behind the Indonesian pair of Ni Made Dwiyanti and Ayu Wilantari Sidan, who clinched the gold.

VIJAY, KALPANA OUT

JAKARTA: India judokas Vijay Kumar Yadav and Kalpana Devi Thoudam were knocked out after losing their bouts in the men’s and women’s eliminatio­n rounds.

Vijay lost 0-10 to Uzbekistan’s Urozboev Diyorbek in the men’s 60kg. Kalpana lost to Uzbekistan’s Gulnoza Ziyaeva in the women’s 52kg round of 16 here.
