KARNAL: Despite the Haryana government invoking ESMA, hundreds of multipurpose health workers continued to observe their indefinite strike that entered its fourth day on Thursday.

The district authorities have served notices to the protesting workers and warned of terminating their services if they did not return to duty in the next 24 hours.

However, the services in the government hospitals remained unaffected as these officials were deployed in the field areas and Asha workers were deputed to help people avail the services at hospitals.

The protesting employees, however, have made it clear that they will continue with their protest until the government accepts their demands, which include hike in salaries, taking it equivalent to the technical employees.

As per the information, around 200 employees deputed in the immunisation department have gone on a strike.

“We are not worried about the ESMA and will continue our strike,” said Nirmala Devi, district president of multi-purpose health workers’ association.

When contacted, Yamunanagar chief medical officer (CMO) Dr Kuldeep Singh said, “There are around 141 contractual and 37 regular employees who have gone on a strike, but the services remained unaffected as we have made alternative arrangements.”

The CMO said as per the government’s directions, notices have been served to the protesting employees and their services will be considered terminated if they do not return to the duty within next 24 hours.
