25-year-old man booked for rape, foeticide in Batala

BATALA: Police on Thursday booked a person for allegedly raping a woman on the pretext of marrying her and later forcing her to abort the child.

The accused has been identified as Ajaypal Singh, 25, a resident of Jhangian village in Dera Baba Nanak town.

In her complaint to the police, the 22-year-old victim stated that the accused used to come to her village to meet his aunt, who was living near her home. During the passage of time, the duo fell in love and later the accused came up with a marriage proposal that she accepted.

She further alleged that the accused developed physical relations with her on the pretext of marriage and when she got pregnant, he started ignoring her. On the afternoon of August 26, the accused came to her home and compelled her to eat two contraceptive pills following which her condition deteriorated and she was rushed to the civil hospital in Batala.

During the medical examination, the doctors found she had miscarried a 6-monthold foetus. The foetus was removed and the doctors informed the police.

On victim’s statement, the police have registered a case under Sections 376 (rape) and 316 (causing death of quick unborn child) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against the accused, who is absconding.

Investigating officer Narinder Kaur said the postmortem of the foetus has been done. Now, the DNA examination of the foetus will be conducted to establish its relationship with the accused.
