Hry assembly pays homage to Vajpayee, Tandon on Day 1

CHANDIGARH: The monsoon session of Haryana Vidhan Sabha commenced on Friday, with the House paying tributes to the prominent personalit­ies who died after the end of the previous session.

Those paid homage included former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, former Chhattisga­rh governor Balramji Dass Tandon, former Lok Sabha speaker Somnath Chatterjee, former Tamil Nadu chief minister M Karunanidh­i, former MP Ramchandra Bainda, senior journalist and former Rajya Sabha member Kuldip Nayar, former ministers Shyam Chand, Jai Singh Rana, MLAs Hari Chand Middha and Gauri Shanker, Jain Muni Tarun Sagar and Hindi poet Gopaldas Neeraj.

Leader of the House and chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar read out the obituary resolution­s. Speaker Kanwar Pal, leader of opposition Abhay Chautala, Congress legislatur­e party (CLP) leader Kiran Choudhry, parliament­ary affairs minister Ram Bilas Sharma and former chief minister and Congress MLA Bhupinder Singh Hooda also paid tributes to the departed souls.

Tributes were also paid to freedom fighter Naseeb Singh Chokar of Bhuna and martyrs assistant commandant Penny Chaudhary, ASI Rohtash, Havildars Lila Ram, Rajesh Kumar,

Surender Singh, Chandrapal Saini, Mahabir Singh, rifleman Sachin Kumar, Naik Rajnish, Lance Naiks Vikramjeet Singh, Sunil Kumar, Baljeet, sepoys Kuldeep, Kamal Deshwal, Rohtash Singh, Vikas Yadav, Bijender

Singh, Sachin, Dharambir Singh, Deepak Saurot, Rajesh Kumar, Nitesh Kumar, Lokesh Yadav and Devender Singh.

The House also paid homage to those who died in recent Kerala floods.
