SYL, fuel price hike rock House, INLD walks out
PANDEMONIUM INLD members walk out after the party’s adjournment motion on the SYL issue was rejected by the speaker; Cong MLAs too demand discussion on SYL, fuel price hike
CHANDIGARH: Pandemonium prevailed for over an hour over the non-completion of the Sutlej Yamuna Link (SYL) canal, fuel price hike and the deteriorating law and order situation during the zero hour of Vidhan Sabha session here on Monday.
The legislators of the principal opposition party Indian National Lok Dal (INLD), who demanded a discussion on SYL canal, issue staged a walkout after shouting slogans against the ruling BJP continuously for over a half hour.
The Congress members too demanded a discussion on the SYL canal issue, among others including the price rise and law and order situation. They trooped into the well of the House to protest over the refusal of speaker Kanwar Pal to allow a discussion during the zero hour.
There was a din in the House immediately after the question hour with leader of opposition Abhay Chautala, whose adjournment motion on the SYL issue was rejected by the speaker, demanding discussion on the matter, saying it was of utmost importance for Haryana.
However, on being denied permission by the speaker, Abhay led the INLD MLAs to the well of the House.
Later, all INLD MLAs, including Naseem Ahmed, Zakir Hussain, Parminder Dhull, Kehar Singh and Ranbir Gangwa, accused the government of intentionally complicating the SYL canal issue, and started shouting slogans against the government.
Tempers ran high among the INLD and treasury benches after finance minister Capt Abhimanyu said when the INLD was in power, it had not done anything for the SYL canal and now its members are disrupting the House over the issue.
However, when the speaker threatened to name the INLD MLAs, ruckus continued for over half an hour before they staged a walkout.
Similarly Congress MLAs, including Congress legislature party leader Kiran Choudhry, Karan Dalal, Kuldeep Sharma, Geeta Bhukkal, Anand Singh Dangi, Raghbir Kadian, also demanded discussion on the issues mentioned above.
After the speaker’s refusal to allow a discussion, they also trooped into to the well of the House where the protested for several minutes.
