Punjab Police officers’ mother found murdered in Jalandhar
JALANDHAR : A 78-year-old woman, whose two sons are Punjab Police officers, was found murdered at her house in Dakoha locality in Jalandhar on Monday.
Mother of additional inspector general (AIG) of police at the Punjab Armed Police (PAP) Sareen Kumar Prabhakar and sub-inspector Naveen Kumar in Hoshiarpur, Sheela Rani Prabhakar was found dead when her daughter Deepika Kalia came to her house to meet her.
Police said that initial investigation suggested death due to strangulation. The attackers also took away gold jewellery from the house.
The woman used to live alone in her ancestral house and her children used to visit her on weekends, police said. Her youngest son, Naveen, also lives in the same locality. “On Sunday night, she had dinner at our place and went to sleep at her ancestral house,” Naveen told the reporters.
Naveen said his father, also a Punjab Police official, was assassinated by unidentified persons in May 1987.
ADCP-1 Parminder Singh Bhandal said the accused are yet to be identified. Statements of neighbours are being recorded but prima facie it appears to be a case of robbery.
A case under Sections 302 (murder), 380 (theft) and 449 (house trespass) of the Indian Penal Code has been registered at the Rama mandi police station.
