FARIDKOT : Three cops, who were arrested in 2013 in a drug case, have been acquitted by a Moga court.

The court acquitted four people, including cops — ASI Jarnail Singh, head constables Jasvir Singh and Davinder Singh — in two different cases. Jagseer Singh, a civilian, is the fourth person acquitted.

Two cases (FIRs 121 and 122) were registered at the Baghapurana police station in 2013 when the current AIG (Crime) Kamaljit Singh Dhillon was the Moga SSP. Allegations surfaced that Dhillon took ₹40 lakh for diluting the case against the accused cops and a probe panel indicted him for the same in 2017.

In July 2018, Dhillon was appointed Moga SSP again following the removal of Raj Jit Singh Hundal. Within 10 days, the Dhillon from the post after coming to know about the inquiries pending against him.

The Bureau of Investigation (BoI) of the Punjab Police had initiated a probe against Dhillon in June last year after the then IG (Bathinda) MS Chinna recommended to the office of the DGP that a probe be ordered against Dhillon. ASI Jarnail Singh alleged that he paid ₹40 lakh to Dhillon for delaying the challan and filing a cancellation report. The ASI said he got his money back at the intervention of some influential persons.

On September 6, 2013, police had arrested arrested ASI Jarnail Singh and head constable Davinder Singh after 168 kilogram of poppy husk was recovered from the Nathuwala police post. Jasvir Singh managed to flee away from the spot. The raid and seizure of poppy husk from the police post was videographed in the presence of two witnesses — the then Moga SP (traffic) Gurmeet Singh and inspector Amarjit Singh.
