Two killed, 3 injured as car plunges into gorge in HP

DHARAMSHAL­A: A couple was killed and three others were injured when the car they were travelling in skidded off the road and plunged into a 500-foot deep gorge at Kandu on PathankotC­hamba national highway, 35 kilometers from Chamba town, on Friday morning.

The deceased have been identified as Manoj Kumar and his wife Manoj Kumari alias Manu of Luharka village in Chamba. Kumar’s brother Vinod Kumar, daughter Aarvi and another man Sunil Kumar, a resident of Gehra, were also injured in the accident. They have been admitted to Chamba Medical College and their condition is said to be stable.

Chamba superinten­dent of police (SP) Monika Bhutungru said the ill-fated vehicle was on its way from Banikhet to Chamba. “Prima facie it has been learnt that the driver lost control while negotiatin­g a sharp curve,” she said, adding that the rescue teams from Chamba and Dradda were rushed to the spot.

Police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and bodies have been handed over to families after the postmortem. Further investigat­ion in the case is on, said the SP.

2 INJURED AS FALLS INTO RIVULET AT SAHO

Meanwhile, two people were injured when the car they were travelling in skidded off the road and fell into a rivulet at Saho in Chamba district on Friday.

The injured have been identified as Akshay and Pawan, residents of Khanlera village. They were rushed to a local hospital and discharged after the first aid.

Police said, a case of rash and negligent driving was registered and investigat­ions are on.
