KARNAL : Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Sunday launched the ‘Ayushman Bharat — Pradhan Mantri Jan Aarogya Yojana’ at the Kalpana Chawla Government Medical College and Hospital here.

State governor Satyadeo Narain Arya was also present on the occasion. Speaking on the occasion, the CM said the scheme will cover around 15.5 lakh poor families in the state registered under the Socio-Economic Caste Census ((SECC-2011). He announced that the government is also planning to include more deserving families in the scheme, which ensures an annual medical assistance to a family up to Rs 5 lakh.

Khattar said that initially the beneficiaries of eight categories included in the SECC-2011 data will be benefitted under the scheme. As the economic condition of the people might have changed during these years, keeping them out of SECC-2011 data, more categories will be added to cover maximum beneficiaries under the scheme.

These will include about 5.5 lakh workers registered under the Haryana Labour Welfare Board, people belonging to the Below Poverty Line (BPL), those who were jailed during emergency period between 1975-1977, people who played an active role during the Hindi Andolan and those who served in the Indian National Army (INA) formed by Subhash Chandra Bose during the World War 2.

The CM said no limit of family members has been fixed to get the scheme benefit.

A total of 158 private and 72 government hospitals have been empanelled in the state under the scheme.

The e-data of beneficiaries, who will be given identity cards later, is already available.

He also presented a Rs 21,000 cheque to Mausami Devi, a resident of Karnal’s Ghisarpuri village, who became the first beneficiary under the Ayushman scheme after she gave birth to a daughter, Krishma, on August 17.

Earlier, the CM also allocated 50-yard plot to 237 families, who were living in Valmiki Basti in Karnal for the past several years. The Punjab and Haryana high court had directed the state to rehabilitate them.
