Will discuss the matter with CM, says OP Soni
AMRITSAR: Concerned over the recent snatching incidents in Amritsar, cabinet minister for school education OP Soni along with all the elected area representatives, officials from civil and police administration, reviewed the law and order situation in the district on Sunday.
Presiding over the meeting, Soni said, “Police are responsible for the safety and security of Amritsar residents as well as the tourists. Dereliction in duty will not be tolerated and strict action will be recommended against non performing officers.”
Discussing the delay in action over adulterators, Soni said that sending all the samples taken by the food safety teams to Kharar lab and waiting for analysis reports is a cumbersome process. “Owing to the ongoing inspections, I will take up the matter of setting up a food testing lab in Majha with Chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh to facilitate quick analysis process in the region.”
He appreciated the work of food safety officers and asked them to maintain the momentum in the wake of ensuing festival season. Taking serious note of the alleged inferior quality wheat being supplied to smart card holders, Soni said that compromise on quality will not be tolerated. He also directed the food and civil supply officers to review the status of smart cards and incorporate all the eligible beneficiaries.
To be on guard against the onslaught of heavy rain, the minister recommended the cancellation of leave applications of all the employees of sewerage and power department and asked the officers to ensure regular supply of clean drinking water and electricity.
UNEMPLOYED TEACHERS PROTEST
Unemployed teachers under the banner of Unemployed Physical Education Teachers union protested outside Soni’s residence and demanded government jobs, on Sunday.
The protest was led union president, Keshav Kohli. Addressing the protesters, Kohli said it was one of the pre-poll promises of the government to give jobs to unemployed teachers but the promise still remains unfulfilled.
He said, on one side, the state government is giving importance to spots but almost all the government schools are running without the physical education teachers.
International players of Punjab have been playing for other states as the government fails to recognise their efforts and provide a conducive sports atmosphere and facilities, he said.
The protesters said if the government did not meet their demands within two weeks, they will protest in front of chief minister’s residence on October 24.
