De-recognise parties that fail to fulfil poll promises: Sena to EC
MUMBAI: The Shiv Sena on Monday took on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over its pre-poll promises and said the Election Commission of India should de-recognise political parties that make false promises before the elections.
The party, in its mouthpiece, ‘Saamana’, said Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2014 had promised to “bring back” the Pakistanoccupied Kashmir (PoK) on the Indian map, black money stashed in foreign banks, and deposit ₹15 lakh in the bank accounts of the citizens. “In the campaigning for the 2014 polls, what promises did Modi make? He was going to bring the moon and stars for the people... what happened to [the promise of] tackling inflation and bringing prosperous days for the people?” the BJP ally asked.
The editorial stated that Maharashtra State Election Commission, JS Sahariya, made statements to rein in political parties, who make promises before elections.
“The promise made before election is ‘Jumlebaazi’. The state election commissioner has made announcements to control this... The political parties that do not fulfil the promises made in its manifestos can be de-recognised, the commissioner had said.”
The Sena also targeted the chief minister, Devendra Fadnavis, and said that he had made promises during the KalyanDombivli municipal corporation and Jalgaon-Sangli municipal corporation elections.
