Kishan shines as Jharkhand defeat Bengal, Rajasthan win against Assam

NEWDELHI: Skipper Ishan Kishan slammed a fifty and fellow opener Anand Singh hit a century as Jharkhand defeated Bengal by two runs under VJD method in a Vijay Hazare Trophy one-dayer at the TI Cycles Ground in Chennai on Monday.

The duo added 119 for the first wicket in 18.3 overs as they set about in chase of Bengal total which was built around Abhimanyu Easwaran’s 149. While Bengal had made 267/8 in 50 overs, Jharkhand needed to get to 263 in 49 overs after one over was lost.

Anand had to go out of the field as retired hurt before returning later to see his team through to 263 before being the ninth man dismissed. Jharkhand finished on 264/9 in 49 overs.

Apart from the two openers, only Anukul Roy chipped in with something substantia­l, making 34 off 45 balls. None of the other batsmen could go past 20.

Earlier, Easwaran and Manoj Tiwary (69) were the only ones to shine, putting on 132 runs for the third wicket. The next highest scorer was Bodupalli Amit who made just 11. For Jharkhand, Varun Aaron took three for 48.

Meanwhile, Rajasthan defeated Assam by 56 runs at the MA Chidambara­m Stadium. Manender Singh made 101 while Mahipal Lomror scored 54 as Rajasthan could make just 217/7 in 50 overs. In reply, Assam folded for 161 in 38.4 overs with left-arm seamer Tanvir Ul-Haq taking three for 27.
